Hats Off to Starbucks’ Cause

October 29, 2008 By Charities Blog

Starbucks holds an annual cause helping out the people in need. The latest social work that they have been doing has to do with helping fight AIDS and tuberclosis in Africa, in partnership with REDS.

With or without the said ties, Starbucks has had a good history of helping out people in need, especially when the holiday season sets afoot. The program is something that can be seen with other causes but the thing is, they are consistent.

In all parts of the world, this practice is something common. Considering that they are more than just a coffee serving company, you have to admire how they put emphasis in giving back to society for placing them where they are and connecting the people in need with their customers.

Such a cause is something that adds to their brand image as well, focusing more on being able to help unfortunate people that really require aid and assistance. Starbucks is in a bind as well as it is slowly feeling the hard times of doing business worldwide. But despite all these factors in crisis, you cannot help but tip your hat towards the efforts that this coffee serving institution has been doing since years back until the present.

“Starbucks gives (Red) the opportunity to do something good every day,” said Jenifer Willig, director of partner management and marketing at (Red). “We have amazing partners who have great products, but this is an everyday product. We can bring the power of the Starbucks community together to help raise millions of dollars and save thousands of lives in Africa.”

The need to raise the level of awareness of women on this aspect has to be done. Apparently with this educational video, women can be pushed towards being more careful and hopefully aim towards donate towards creating more informational materials that can all the more raise the awareness of breast cancer in women.

Many have fought this dreaded disease and faltered. One aspect of it all is their lack of education on how to detect and remedy breast cancer even before it spreads. There are minor aids such as leaflets and flyers but while they may have helped, it still remains that the need to seriously consider what breast cancer is all about and how to diagnose it manually beforehand is utterly important.

With this viral video, women can get a better understanding to which we all know that visuals offer an easier way of learning. Hopefully though they find that through these mediums, it can be easier to spread the word as far as alerting women on the possible existence of breast cancer in them.

Does the Bailout Plan Include Charities?

September 30, 2008 By Charities Blog

The celebrated bailout plan of the U.S. government has evidently been in the air and while it seems that it will push through despite various reaction towards its real good, you have to wonder why the voluntary institutions that provide aid and support are not mentioned among them? Perhaps it is implied?

However, knowing the number of companies in need of financial life support, it is apparent that charity organizations are not among the leaders of groups that are being considered for help. For one, the government seems to have left this issue to the duty of thoughtful donors but aren’t they the ones who are encountering rough sailing from the business crunch?

Assuming that these tycoons are able to get the aid from the government, it should not be automatically implied that they will continue to perform charity donations. For sure, they will be prioritizing their current investments to be able to survive financially. Now this cannot be tagged as being selfish. For one, they have done their share. The charity groups have openly voiced out the need for more donations. The case would have been different if this was being made for their own personal interest. But the fact of the matter is that this is something heeded more towards the general public.

For one, you would never know if you would be the next victim of unseen disasters headed your way. We never know what could possibly happen. But rather than wait for it to happen, taking the call for donations should be made seriously. It is bound to come back to us at times we may need it direly.

This is a great sign for welcoming the call of charity organizations for help. They are mainly responsible for providing aid towards people in need and apparently Newman made sure that he will do his part even before parting from the real world. It is no longer a matter of being famous or just doing a good deed. Newman has far established that even during his prime existence for his millions of fans all over the world through the years.

It is only normal to feel saddened by these turn of events. But while we all remember Mr. Blue Eyes for his movies, his social responsibility is really something to behold.

Veteran’s Charity Scams

December 27, 2007 By Charities Blog

Veterans.jpgThough many have served with life, limb and even their lives, many veterans fro the wars that the U.S. Military branches fall victims for these scams. Such an example would be the charity The National Veterans Service Fund for Vietnam veterans who claimed to provide help to those servicemen who were exposed to Agent Orange in the said war which failed to invest enough money to the veterans they claim so much to be helping. The said chemical was used widely in the Vietnam conflict as a defoliant to clear huge tracts of forest removing all traces of vegetation making it easier for the military to check and secure. The only problem was that the said agent was also a major cause of cancer and other health disorders that only became known after it was studied extensively after the war. The said charity was supposed to provide assistance in terms of medical aid, and other financial support for veterans and their families who were left to deal with the consequences of its use.

Senate inquiries on the activities of the said organizations questioned the more than 90% of expenditures that were focused on paid fund-raiser events with nothing much given to the Veterans themselves in terms of the assistance they promised. They raised alarm bells after veterans started complaining that the said charity was continuing to solicit and obtain funds for their work even if none of the said funds go to the veterans.

The office of the Attorney General have released many guidelines regarding such activities and that one should call or notify them of any discrepancies or irregularities regarding such matters should they arise to allow proper investigation by the responsible authorities. The same is advised for all those who give regularly to charities which should have the main focus of their expenditures focused on the people or cause they intend to help rather than for other purposes. The Vietnam comfort women are a group that need real support though.

According to event organizer, Adelyn Lim, Managing Director of CreatiVision D.C.
