When you organize a charity, even medical science may need a hand. The gift of medicine and helping out people who may have some deficiencies on their health is pretty much a growing concern and considering that many people today are suffering in terms of seeking medication and assistance for various health issues, good causes such as charities are a great way to help them out.
One of these medical problems deals with hearing. The number of people who suffer from deafness is apparent and while there are medical solutions to it, they do not come cheap. Some have to console themselves with the fact that money talks and unless some good soul or program is raised, the inevitable task of enjoying the sense of hearing will only remain a goal for them.
In a move not to really help cure deafness immediately, worthy causes such as the ones being undertaken by the charity Deafness Research UK can do their small part by distributing pamphlets and guiding people suffering from deafness. In the pamphlets, guides and practical advice will be given to help concerned people, something that can really count a lot if people would read on it.
Vivienne Michael, chief executive of Deafness Research UK, commented: “Through the ‘Trouble With your Ears?’ leaflet, we aim to raise awareness of ear problems and give them more prominence on the public health agenda.”
She suggested that the provision of good-quality information could both improve people’s health while at the same time lower the burden placed on doctors by reducing the number of avoidable ear problems.

Holding the Olympics in your country is an honor that will forever be cherished. Other than being among the elite group of countries given the said distinction, China for its part makes the current hosting of the 2008 Olympics pretty much memorable. This holds true especially for the earthquake victims that were devastated last May.
It seems like the price to pay for hosting the Olympics and getting popularity while you are at it seems to be harsh if you think of it. Just consider the fact that a lot of people perished and the survivors now are picking up their lives since that fateful May 12 of this year. But 3 months later, all eyes are on China once again, this time playing host to practically the world’s best athletes as well as billions of people all over the world watching them closely.
In Beijing, fireworks filled the sky and revelry filled the streets. But the party surrounding last night’s Olympic opening ceremony was hardly limited to the nation’s capital city. More than 900 miles away, in Sichuan province, an area that’s wallowed in grief and grown accustomed to loss found reason to rejoice - even if the kickoff to these Games did highlight disparity.
Since the May 12 earthquake, $10 billion has been devoted to relief and reconstruction efforts, a figure that pales in comparison to the money China has spent preparing for the Olympics over the course of the past decade. When the medals are handed out and the dust settles, the price tag on these Games will likely exceed $44 billion.

If that is the price to pay then perhaps it would have been better to let another country host the Olympics. Life is more precious and no matter how prestigious hosting this event may be, the damage made is still too much. Well at least they get some sort of consolation from hosting this rare event.

Miami Heat’s Alonzo Mourning is a familiar figure when it comes to organizing charity events and apparently he has another project coming up this year. But this time, his event is not going to take place on the hardcourt. Rather it will be on the greens, a second sport that has been fixed at most basketball stars today.
The 5th Annual Zo’s Million Dollar Shootout will be held at Trump National Golf Club in Winchester New York on August 18. This annual event held by Mourning has solicited quite a big following. Most of them join not primarily to show off their golfing skills and golf swings but also to give support for Mourning’s worthy cause. It is not all about playing to win since in these events, giving is winning already in its own.
“We know there’s a million dollar shooter out there waiting to show off his or her skills so we encourage you to leave your business suits behind for the day and join us on the greens,” said Alonzo Mourning, Founder of Alonzo Mourning Charities. “Your support helps positively impact the youth we serve who might not have a chance to advance without our assistance. With increased financial resources, we’re able to change the lives of so many deserving children through education and mentoring.”

So if you are in the area, why not join. The cause is for helping out the people in need and it will really feel good doing it all for a worthy cause.

Everyone is suffering and surely the people who can support charities have been limited to the groups that can still hold concerts or even special shows. But independently, you will be surprised to find good Samaritans who can still devote time and a part of their income to the charity. Of course, you have to consider, their welfare comes first before doing a good deed.
There are other forms of charities though outside the standard concerts. There are other ways such as golf tournaments where participant fees and green fees act as the funds to be given to charity. If we see them a lot in the movies, they are actually done in real life. Basketball, golf and tennis, all of these events make periodic charity events and at least they are all doing it for a worthy cause.
Here are some scheduled events for charity in the world of golf:
•••
The fifth annual Off the Wall and Open Door Youth Centres golf tournament will begin at 7 a.m. with a shotgun start at GolfNorth Acton. Cost is $90 per player for 18 holes of golf, cart and a barbecue lunch. Community heroes are needed to sponsor a youth to attend and play ($90). You can also assist by sponsoring a hole for $50, or donating a prize or raffle item. Tax receipts are available for sponsorships and donations. All funds raised go to the Youth Centres.
•••
Fore the Animals golf tournament to aid the Upper Credit Humane Society will be held at the Caledon Country Club on Monday, Sept. 8. Registration, driving range and putting contest opens at 10 a.m.; shotgun start, scramble format at 12:30 p.m. Cocktail reception, gourmet dinner and silent auction, followed by awards and prize ceremony, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Golf and dinner package (per golfer), $170; dinner only (per person), $50.
•••
The 13th annual Community Living North Halton charity golf tournament will be held Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Georgetown.
Entry fee is $175 per golfer which includes cart, lunch and dinner. The cost for dinner only is $45.
Proceeds go to the CLNH’s Saturday Centre, a respite program for school-aged children with developmental disabilities.

It has been over a month now and to this day, nothing striking has been reported on the MV Princess of the Stars tragedy that occurred in Romblon, Philippines. With thousands of lives that perished no thanks to Typhoon Franks, relatives had to console themselves with P200,000.00 in exchange for the lives of their loved ones that sank with this vessel.
The thing you have to hate about this is that the vessel, the MV Princess of the Stars is still out there overturned with bodies floating all over perhaps decaying by now. Apparently there are further issues to resolve such as the celebrated chemicals that were on board the ship that can lead to an outbreak of diseases and contamination if the rescuers are not careful.
Already affected are the fish and sea creatures that are being sold in the area as the increasing fear of contaminated fish or sea shell food is a possibility. With that in mind, one can just imagine the impact that this tragedy has given to the local folks of Romblon and how the livelihood of nearby towns are being affected as well.
Rather than focusing on how to resolve the issue, the people behind the vessel, Sulpicio Lines continues to face the raps being hurled their way. Political parties in the Philippines are having a heyday frying the vessel owners and while they are doing that, family members of the victims on board continue to wait.
Even worse, it is the rainy season. While the vessel has not been completely taken out, there are more storms headed the way of the Philippines. More delays are sure to ensue and perhaps make the situation grow worse.
