Veteran’s Charity Scams

Written by Merve on December 27, 2007

Veterans.jpgThough many have served with life, limb and even their lives, many veterans fro the wars that the U.S. Military branches fall victims for these scams. Such an example would be the charity The National Veterans Service Fund for Vietnam veterans who claimed to provide help to those servicemen who were exposed to Agent Orange in the said war which failed to invest enough money to the veterans they claim so much to be helping. The said chemical was used widely in the Vietnam conflict as a defoliant to clear huge tracts of forest removing all traces of vegetation making it easier for the military to check and secure. The only problem was that the said agent was also a major cause of cancer and other health disorders that only became known after it was studied extensively after the war. The said charity was supposed to provide assistance in terms of medical aid, and other financial support for veterans and their families who were left to deal with the consequences of its use.

Senate inquiries on the activities of the said organizations questioned the more than 90% of expenditures that were focused on paid fund-raiser events with nothing much given to the Veterans themselves in terms of the assistance they promised. They raised alarm bells after veterans started complaining that the said charity was continuing to solicit and obtain funds for their work even if none of the said funds go to the veterans.

The office of the Attorney General have released many guidelines regarding such activities and that one should call or notify them of any discrepancies or irregularities regarding such matters should they arise to allow proper investigation by the responsible authorities. The same is advised for all those who give regularly to charities which should have the main focus of their expenditures focused on the people or cause they intend to help rather than for other purposes.

How to Start a Good Charity Drive

Written by Merve on July 1, 2007

There are people who really want to devote some time they have in helping out other people. But the purpose for putting up charity drives would have to define what they are designed for and what they intend to accomplish. People would resort to medical missions, conducting community service in helping out shorthanded foundations to take care of the people under their wing.

Volunteering for Charity

It should however be noted that all this work is purely for volunteering and not strictly required. It is done out of entirely an open heart with no expectations of anything in return. This is the charity way of living, sharing and spreading the love that other people look for to which they have stumbled and almost fallen.

Such a task has been left under the wing of people who stand and believe in something that should be done for the oppressed. All it takes is identifying and matching the people to do the said work at the proper time.

Written by Merve on May 23, 2007

Practically anyone must be wondering, do all donations given to the known charitable institutions in their region actually reach their intended purpose of helping the actual people in need? Technically, the common man would care less but each penny or in kind donations are totally for the account of the people housed and targeted for such aids and donations.

Non Profit Charity Organizations

These charity organizations are non-profit organizations. They are purely for voluntary aid and work to serve people and endeavors in need. While the immediate understanding that people in need would be the main beneficiaries, there are other causes such as disaster victims, and other individuals who would find themselves on the losing end.

But just the same, the aim of such foundations and organizations is to purely offer help and support in any form possible. It is not about how much or what to give. The Limited Choices of People Seeking Aid

Written by Merve on March 19, 2007

Hunger in the World of Poverty

Around the world, it cannot be denied that there are a lot of people who are experiencing poverty and issues regarding their manner of living. A lot would depend on where they are situated, the country and of course the manner of living that majority of the region is experiencing. Not all countries are blessed with a good economy to which people can find a way to survive with the available jobs to choose from. Some are just plain unlucky to be situated in them like Vietnam, Africa and so on.

The good thing about the world is that people from other countries do not hesitate to lend a helping hand to the best of their abilities. Help in any form cannot be measured and people in need do not really have much choice. Hence beggars really cannot be choosers in this case.

Help in the form of food, clothing and other materials essential for living is being sent to most parts of the world. Some would even render volunteer work and services just to reach them. In a sense, they can call themselves lucky that there are people who still care for what the world has to deal with today.

Community Service in Educational Curriculums

Written by Merve on March 15, 2007

In most educational institutions, community service is placed alongside the entire curriculum so that up and coming yuppies can get a glimpse of other things they can do outside that of contributing their expertise and working for a living. Exposing them to the people who have not the same luck that they have, like obtaining degrees and becoming bums is a good way of showing them that life is too precious to take for granted.

Community Service Philippines

Also, taking on community service work where they can do their share in helping various foundations and organizations that aim to answer the call of the needs of various groups is something that people may want to devote a part of their lives. It does not cost much for people to do so. A portion of their time and what they can offer is all that is needed. Everything is purely voluntary but the best way to see where they can help out once they are set out in the world and venture on things that they can contribute for a better society and world to live in.
